Specialist services for ship managers.
Alongside MSQ outsourcing, we offer specialist services drawn from the same domain knowledge: the audits, inspections and vetting preparation that ship managers face every year. Use them on their own or together with our MSQ outsourcing.
VDR audit
An objective review of what the bridge data actually shows: audio, radar, ECDIS, helm inputs and alarms, across routine voyages and high-workload situations such as port approaches, restricted visibility, pilotage and anchorage.
How we help
- We agree the voyages to review and collect the VDR data
- We analyse every source and grade the findings by severity
- Findings are cross-checked against your SMS, passage plans and COLREGs
- We present the report and debrief your DPA or fleet superintendent
- We support root cause analysis and the corrective action plan
What you receive
- A written report with severity-graded findings
- Timestamped evidence references and the standards they relate to
- Benchmarking against SIRE 2.0, RISQ and best practice
- Guidance on corrective actions and root causes
Ship inspections & audits
Experienced inspectors on board, assessing machinery spaces, decks, accommodation, drills and the bridge team, to find the risks that records alone cannot show.
How we help
- Condition surveys benchmarked against SIRE 2.0, RISQ and PSC expectations
- Pre-purchase inspections that expose deficiencies before you commit
- ISM / ISPS / MLC audits of how the system is really applied on board
- Navigation and cargo audits covering passage planning, ECDIS, bridge resource management and cargo procedures
What you receive
- A narrative report with prioritised deficiencies
- Rectification timelines
- Observations on crew performance and drills
- A closing meeting debrief
- Root cause guidance for corrective action
TMSA / DryBMS preparation
A structured route to a stronger self-assessment. We test your practice against each element and help you build the evidence and the improvement plan that the next review will look for.
How we help
- Element-by-element gap assessment against TMSA (tankers) or DryBMS (dry bulk)
- Mapping of existing evidence and identification of what is missing
- Prioritised improvement actions with practical owners and timelines
- Support with the self-assessment and preparation for external review
- Follow-up as actions are closed
What you receive
- A gap assessment by element and stage
- An evidence checklist
- A prioritised improvement plan
- Ongoing support as you close actions
Pre-RISQ / SIRE inspections
A thorough check before the inspector arrives, in two stages: a remote review of your records, and where needed an onboard mock inspection that mirrors a vetting inspection.
How we help
- Remote forensic review of logbooks, PMS history, hours of rest and records such as OWS and Oil Record Book entries against actual port calls
- Targeted follow-up questions to clear gaps and inconsistencies
- A pre-arrival risk profile showing what to fix first
- Optional onboard walkarounds, crew interviews and witnessed drills
- Support while rectification is carried out
What you receive
- A pre-arrival risk profile with prioritised actions
- A report with an evidence trail and data mismatch analysis
- A rectification checklist aligned to likely observations
- Follow-up support through the rectification window
Remote tank cleaning consultation
Planning support for oil and chemical tankers, delivered remotely to the ship and the office. Tank cleaning and stowage decisions affect time, cost and acceptance, so we help you get them right before the ship starts washing or loading.
DPP to CPP changeovers
Remote consultation for tanks moving from dirty petroleum products (DPP) to clean petroleum products (CPP), with a method matched to the previous cargo, tank condition and next cargo.
- Changeover cleaning plan by previous and next cargo
- Method, sequence and wash-cycle guidance
- Cleaning chemical selection guidance
- Slop, residue and disposal planning
- Inspection readiness for the incoming cargo
- Time and cost planning to avoid re-cleaning
Cleaning to wall wash standards
Remote consultation to get chemical tanks to the wall wash standard your next cargo demands, with the records to prove it.
- Previous and next cargo compatibility review
- Prewash and cleaning requirements under MARPOL Annex II
- Wall wash standard and acceptance preparation
- Tank coating and stainless steel considerations
- Drying, ventilation and gas freeing guidance
- Cargo record and documentation support
Stowage planning for pure chemicals
Remote support to plan where each pure chemical parcel goes, so cargoes stay compatible and cleaning stays manageable.
- Cargo compatibility and segregation review
- Tank allocation by coating, construction and heating needs
- Previous cargo and cleaning grade requirements
- Parcel sequencing to limit tank cleaning
How it works
- You share the vessel, tank types and coatings, the last three cargoes, the next cargo and the available equipment
- We review cargo compatibility, cleaning requirements and risks
- You receive a clear, tank-specific plan and checklist
- We support the crew and prepare the ship for inspection and acceptance
What you receive
- A clear plan the crew can follow, with checks and safety controls
- A pre-arrival review of last cargoes, next cargo, tank condition and equipment
- Shore support while cleaning is under way
- A post-cleaning review feeding lessons back into your procedures
Is this only for the changeover voyage?
No. We can also prepare standing tank cleaning procedures and crew guidance for your fleet, so each changeover starts from a good plan.
Do you attend the ship?
Our service is remote consultation, working with the ship and your office. If you need anything beyond that, ask and we will discuss what is possible.
One team behind all of it.
These services draw on the same experience as our MSQ outsourcing. Many clients combine them, so findings flow straight into the MSQ function that acts on them.

Tell us what you need.
Send a few lines about your fleet and the service you are considering. We will reply with how we can help and what it would involve.
